Have you checked your frontend speeds? It is possible that having a/b testing enabled for Calls to Action will cause more load latency that can be recovered by disabling split testing.
That’s my only advice currently.
I am interested if the dofollow technique improves your situation. I was not aware something that was setup to be logically adherent to guidelines would mal affect the SEO ratings. We just have to wait and see and hopefully others will provide us with more intel as well .
